Tell us a little about yourself and how you got started with training?
I have always been an athlete and when college was over, I needed something to keep the competitive drive going, so I looked into doing fitness competitions. I have lifted weights and felt comfortable in the gym, so it wasn’t all new to me, but I learned a lot along the way!
What is it that you enjoy the most about training?
I love lifting heavy and feeling strong. There is nothing better than working hard and being able to physically see the progress day by day.
Can you take us through a week of your training routine?
I usually do a 6 day split when lifting muscle groups and I also tie in Crossfit (WOD) for some higher intensity functional training. I lift and then finish by doing a quick WOD (or workout of the day) as shown here:
Monday – shoulders/core
Tuesday – back
WOD – 3 rounds for time
Row 500 meters
25 Back Extensions
12 pull ups
Wednesday – quads/calves
10x Ball Slams (20#)
50 Double Unders
Thursday – chest
Complete as many rounds in 20 minutes as you can of:
+ 400m run
Friday – shoulders/core
Three rounds of:
8- Power snatches
10- Box jump, 24″ box
5 Toe-to-Bar (TTB)
S – Hams/Glutes
How often and how long do you normally spend doing cardio?
I am not that excited about tons of cardio, so I like to get mine in doing high intensity training. This can be through the Crossfit WODs or I will do sprints on the track, or ride my spin bike. I don’t usually do cardio more than 20-30 minutes.
What does your current diet look like?
Since I am not doing any competition prep at the moment, I like to just eat clean. I can eye-ball my portion sizes for the most part. I try to stick to lean protein, veggies, and fruits. I do have a gluten-free diet as well.
What is your favorite cheat meal?
Pizza! I can hardly get my rings off after eating it, but its good going down!!
What advice would you give to someone who is thinking about breaking into the fitness industry?
You have to have tough skin. There will be people who are just trying to get ahead of the next person, or that will put you down, or question you, or flat out tell you no. Stay true to who you are and stay focused on your goals. Use that negativity and doubt to fuel your fire to do what you set out to do!
What do you feel is the biggest sacrifice you’ve made to be in this sport/ industry?
To compete, it takes a lot of time! Between food prep, workouts, etc… Your life will be consumed by it.
How do you stay motivated?
I stay motivated by having people tell me that I inspire them or ask me for fitness/diet advice. It is the best feeling knowing that someone looks up to your or trusts your opinion and that is what keeps me going! I also schedule photo shoots when im not doing any competitions, just to keep me on track.
Do you feel supplements are necessary to take your body to the next level and if so, which ones?
Some supplements are necessary. I feel like you can get some of that nutrition through the food you are eating, which makes other supplements unnecessary. I do feel that you need to at least be on glutamine, Fish/Krill Oil, probiotics, whey protein.
What are your future plans or goals in the sport/ industry?
I do plan on competing at the WBFF World Championships next year. This year, I am taking the year off to build my business and focus more on the modeling side of things.
